Algebra Rubric Term 3 2021                                                    Name: Tessa Webb.

Criteria

Level 2 (5ii)

Early Level 3

Level 3

Level 4

Algebraic patterns

Explain the rule for a sequential pattern.

Describe the rules for number patterns

Use tables and graphs to describe rules number patterns

Find rules and formulas for number patterns

My Algebra goals:

Goal

Success Criteria (This is what it will look like when I get there)

I need to explain what the next term of a spatial pattern will be. Eg

To achieve this goal I can say which is the next number, shape or character in the pattern or I know what the next number or shape will be in the next part of the sequence. Eg the next creature is a butterfly. The next pattern will have four triangles.etc.

I can describe what must happen for the next pattern. For example

To achieve this goal I can say what is happening in the patterns eg You add two matches each time to make the next pattern in the sequence. It is going up by 2 each time starting from 3.

I need a strategy to continue a pattern without drawing or building every one.

To achieve this goal I will have a strategy such as a table I can use to work out how many matchsticks there will be needed to make 10 triangles.

Triangles

1

2

3

4

5

Matches

3

5

7

9

11

Each time the difference gets bigger by one so I can work out the 10th pattern without building it.

I need to be able to use a formula to work out the 100th term in a spatial or number pattern

To achieve this goal, I can use letters to represent the term in a sequence that I get from looking at a table and building a formula.

I notice if I double the number of triangles and add 1, I get the number of matches needed so m = double p plus 1. Eg 3 x 2 = 6 plus 1 = 7.

Goal Setting in Algebra

My goal in algebra is to  Find a formula.

Algebra Reflection

Using the two tests, think about your strengths and which gaps you have sorted out. (goals you have achieved). To be completed at the end of the 3 weeks.

Talk to someone about:

  • How you achieved them (you could talk about how quickly you achieve them, some of the learning qualities that helped you achieve them.)

  • What strategies you now have to help you with algebraic problems. (use your rubric)

  • What worked well for your learning (what you did or what your teachers did)

  • What could have been better (what could you have done better? or what could your teachers have done better?)

Finally post on your Blog

Progress and what could have been better.

My first test I did I thought was a bit hard thing ( to come back to from when you have just been on holiday. )

It took me a while to process it back into my brain. But I got most of the question right I got 4/6 I just got 2 questions wrong.

On my second test I got 3/6 which was a bit bad from last time but at least I got some right instead of non at all.

But the next time we do this test I’ll know a little bit more than I did the last two times.

Algebra pattern and Relationships.

Algebra Pattern and Relationships PreTest    Name:Tessa

  1. Garden Creatures - What is the next creature in the pattern above? Explain how you know. Butterfly because the pattern goes like butterfly, snail then ladybug. It stops at ladybug so it goes back to the start.

  2. Shaping up Colours  - What shape goes on number 14 in this pattern? What colour will it be? How do you know?

____blue circle I just went along with the pattern.

  1. Matchstick Moves - Can you keep the pattern above going? How many triangles and matches will be in the next pattern? How do you know?      Triangles 4____                  Matches _24____

  1. Growing Numbers.             7, 13, 19, 25 …             What would the seventh number be in the pattern? How do you know?

43__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

5. Folding Fractions - Chris makes a table below to show the patterns for the number of folds in each shape. What would Chris write for the parts and fraction in 4 and 5 folds?

6.  Fencing - Here are some lengths of fence. How many matches will there be in Length 10? Show below how you worked it out.

Fraction Reflection.Tessa Webb

 Fraction Reflection

This is an opportunity for you to reflect on your Maths teaching and learning this week. You can then put it up on your blog.

As a Learner:

What did I learn during the two different lessons?

Putting the right fraction in the right place on a number line and learning about denominator and the numerator.

What could have been better?

Getting their Kahoot set up for their learners and having more activities and having all of there stuff set up.

What were the strengths of my / our teaching?

We got an 8 on " I was well supported and it was fun and enjoyable.

And a 7 on All children experience learning that is not too easy and not to hard.

What could have been better?

Getting our Kahoot set up before our teaching and having a longer game and doing more fractions tests.

What did I learn from being an observer?

Nothing really, except that you have to ask the learners if its hard or too easy.

Would you like the opportunity to teach children in another area of maths? Why or why not?

Yes I would like to teach again but doing times and divided by.

     Sports VS Music

                              By Tessa Webb

                                  21 . 6 . 2021

Do you think music is better than sports? Well, let me tell you.

Well what I originally think is that sports are way better than music. Because sports are fun, physical and it keeps you fit and healthy.

The reason why I haven’t chosen music is because I play sports and I know how it feels. The sports I play are Football, Swimming, Gymnastics and surf life saving. I’ll run you through 3 good reasons why sports are way better.

Firstly, sports is something everyone can try.Secondly, It’s interactive, physical and fun. Finally, you burn calories and lose weight and sports are definitely not every single day of the week.

Now I’ll run you through 3 good reasons why music is not as good and fun as sports.

Firstly, music is not as physical as sports and you don’t get to interact with many people.Secondly, It’s not as common as sports you don’t burn calories either. And finally, It’s kind of boring when you do it everyday and learn the same songs a million times a day.

When you do sports like gymnastics, football or surf lifesaving you burn calories, lose weight and get way stronger.

When you do music it doesn’t really do anything; you just learn new songs, piano keys, notes or strings. You learn sports way faster than music.

Music is fun  in some ways, but I still think that sports like swimming, gymnastics, hockey, football, rugby, squash, netball and even surf lifesaving are way better.

Music is kind of like a sport but not exactly even though music is not as interactive as sports  I do find music fun but its not as fun as sports.

Music doesn’t burn calories, lose weight and it doesn’t make you get strong like sports does.

Still in my opinion I still think sports is way better than music!!

Brains

  Brains

                                 By Tessa Webb

                                  21 . 6 . 2021

Today we learned about brains and it was really fun because I got to touch a real monkey brain and a cat brain and even a rat brain. I got to touch the monkey brain and the cat brain but the rat brain was in a test cup with different chemicals so we couldn’t touch it.

We learned all about all of the different parts of the brain. Then we did some really cool activities with all of the people like looking into a mirror and tracing a star by not looking at it and putting on a shirt with one hand and making paper brains.

Horouta waka application

 Dear my fellow chiefs,

If I were chosen to board the Horouta waka the qualities I will bring to this job will be to protect the kumara or to tie the sails up and to help Navigate by using the stars, waves, clouds and the birds to new green luscious untouched land.

If needed I could take care of all the children aboard the waka. I have really good experience with cooking so if needed I can cook some delicious meals for the crew and when I look after the children I can make them some delicious snacks to eat while their parents are working.

I have good experience with fishing all thanks to my father.

I am really good at swimming so if anyone falls overboard I can go and save them from drowning.

I’m fairly good at climbing things like trees and I can carry heavy objects such as crates full of kumara. If you need me aboard you know who to call.

Yours sincerely Tessa W

Explanations.

What's the difference between Football and American Football?

Explanation

Want to know what the difference between football and american football is,well let me tell you.

Firstly in other countries that play football use their feet and kick the ball around, but in America they use their hands and then drop kicks into their football goals. Secondly there are all these different football teams in different continents and different states but they wear different uniforms even though they are from the same countries.

In countries like New Zealand and Australia they use sphere-like balls as in America  Ironically, though they are still called “pigskins,” nowadays all pro and collegiate footballs are actually made with cowhide leather. As some people may think that if american football is like rugby the goals might be like that too, but there actually not they are the exact same as every other football goal in the world there all the exact same.

This is not an american football.

This is an american football.

The first game for america.

On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton played what was billed as the first college football game. However, it wasn't until the 1880s that a great rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp, pioneered rules changes that slowly transformed rugby into the new game of American Football.

The first ever NewZealand Football game.

14 May 1870

Nelson College played the Nelson Football Club, with 18 players on each side. The 'town' team, wearing 'street clothes', won the match 2-0.

My goal is : to add detail and sentences.
